This article has been corrected. A previous version of this article stated that Qahmaine Orr was the third homicide victim under the age of 18 this year. A review of police records to-date reveals he is one of two homicide victims under the age of 18. There have been four suspects age 18 or younger who have been arrested for committing homicides.

In an all-too-familiar plea, Savannah Police Chief Roy Minter is asking for the public's help in identifying suspects in the homicide of a 14-year-old boy.

Just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday evening, Savannah police responded to a call at the 500 block of Emerald Drive in the Frazier Homes complex. Officers found Qahmaine Orr suffering from gunshot wounds. Orr was transported to Memorial University Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

A two-page police report sent to the Savannah Morning News gave no details on the fatal shooting.

During Mayor Van Johnson's weekly press conference Tuesday morning, Minter said investigators have spoken to witnesses who said they heard gunfire and saw three to four men in dark clothing running north from the area of the shooting. It was not immediately known if Orr resided at the apartment complex.

"That's all we've got so far, very limited information," Minter said, urging residents with information to call the department with tips.

According to SPD spokesperson Bianca Johnson, there have been 24 homicides this year. Stacy Jennings, spokesperson for the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, would not say what school Orr attended, citing district policy, but said that "the district has deployed resources for students at the affected site."

The SPD announced a $2,000 reward for information that results in the arrest of the parties responsible for Orr's death. Tipsters are encouraged to contact the SPD Homicide Unit at (912) 651-4362 or the Crime Tip Line at (912) 525-3124.

CrimeStoppers also has a standing reward up to $2,500 for crime tips. Tipsters remain anonymous and can reach CrimeStoppers by calling (912) 234-2020 or visiting SavannahChathamCrimeStoppers.org and clicking “Submit Online Tip.”
