Hearst Foundation awards $100,000 grant to Union Mission to help end homelessness
The Hearst Foundation awarded Savannah nonprofit Union Mission a $100,000 grant to support its emergency housing programs for men at Grace House, women and children at the Don and Kaye Kole Magdalene House, and unaccompanied women at Parker’s House.
The Emergency Housing Program includes a 90-day shelter program that offers case management and access to supportive services that work to address medical, mental health and employment needs for those citizens experiencing homelessness.
“We are honored and humbled to be supported by The Hearst Foundations,” Traynor said in a press release. “Union Mission has been actively seeking ways to improve and increase its services in areas where unduplicated need has been identified. The Hearst Foundations will support our efforts as we partner with people to end their homelessness.”
The funds will help support the continued expansion of Union Mission's emergency programs for homeless populations.
In 2022, Union Mission provided 72 total beds through the Grace House for men. The immediate needs of 20 women and children, the fastest growing population of homeless individuals, were addressed through six emergency housing suites and supportive services. They were able to obtain safe, stable housing through Magdalene House. And within its first 10 months of operation, Parker's House served 185 women.
