A 4-year-old boy drowned in a pool Wednesday in Clayton County.

Clayton County police responded to a home around 5:30 p.m. on Winding Way Lane in Jonesboro, where they found the boy in the pool, according to a news release from the department.

The boy was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation suggests the child and his parents were visiting from out of town, according to the release.

Police said while the drowning appears to be accidental, the incident will be investigated.
