Looking for a place to vacation that's close to home? Consider Savannah, because it has been named one of the top cities in the country by Travel and Leisure.

"Every year for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more," the site said.

And this year was no different as editors determined the 2017 results by asking its readers to rate cities on sights and landmarks, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping, and overall value.

Savannah topped the list at No. 3, while Charleston and Sante Fe took first and second place, respectively.

The Georgia city was just one of many Southern regions to make the list. In fact, the South dominated, overall. Eight of the top 15 from the area earned a spot including Williamsburg, Asheville, San Antonio and Nashville.

Festivals were also a common theme. Surveyors praised Austin’s SXSW and New Orleans’ Mardi Gras as must-see events.
