Reports of hostage situation in Paris turn out to be false alarm

There were a flurry of reports on social media Saturday of a hostage situation taking place in Paris.

A church near the Étienne Marcel transit station was being referenced on Twitter as the place where significant police activity was taking place.

An attack alert was issued, but police cleared the area and declared the area safe a short while later.

The initial reports drew a large police response.
