An Australian man is on trial for murdering a drinking buddy allegedly because the man drank the last of his beer.
Gary Stewart Miles is on trial accused of viciously beating 47-year-old Paul Stamp last year after the victim drank Miles' last four beers. Miles says he warned Stamp not to touch his drinks.
After Miles and his friend Gregory Channing beat Stamp, the men allegedly dragged the badly injured Stamp into the trunk of Miles' car.
Police say the men then drove off to an industrial area in the city of Darwin where they planned to dump Stamp out and make him walk home.
But investigators say their car ran out of gas on their drive and Miles and Channing walked off to go get gas, leaving Stamp in the trunk until they returned.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, once they returned to the car, Miles allegedly decided that instead of refueling the car he would pour gas over it and set it ablaze, with Stamps still stuck in the trunk.
Channing was found guilty in September of assault and depriving Stamp of liberty. He is serving a five-and-a-half-year sentence.
Miles is currently standing trial in the nation's Northern Territory Supreme Court.
