A woman who called 911 to report her car sinking into the Chattahoochee River had actually crashed into a water treatment pond in Johns Creek early Friday morning, authorities said.

The woman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, according to Roswell police.

The call created a flurry of excitement at the end of a relatively quiet day for Roswell police, who were conducting a virtual ride-along day and tweeted a video of officers responding to the call in real time.

“Officers and first responders swarmed the area and finally found her in the pond (at) Johns Creek Water Treatment ... heavily intoxicated,” the department tweeted. Warrants were drawn for DUI for the woman just after 1 a.m., police said.

The incident was easily the most notable on a day in which the department’s public information officer shared a ride-along live on social media for more than 12 hours. Aside from the woman who called 911 on herself in the pond, only one other arrest was reported: a woman who had an outstanding warrant in another jurisdiction.

Much of the day was spent on patrol or doing proactive work, such as traffic enforcement. At one point, a panhandler was asked to move from a dangerous location on a highway on-ramp and an officer bought food for her at a convenience store.

It wasn’t until the end of the ride-along, nearly 13 hours after it began, that things got a little crazy near the Chattahoochee. And unlike the Alan Jackson song, in this case someone did get caught.
