A 70-year-old West Virginia woman shot a home invader early Monday, using a .22 magnum rifle, WVNS reported.

The Pocahontas County Sheriff's Office said it received a call about an attempted robbery in Hillsboro at 3:10 a.m. Monday, the television station reported. When investigators arrived on the scene, they found Jesse Blake, 34, of Marlinton, lying in the yard with a gunshot wound, WVNS reported.

Blake allegedly tried breaking two windows to enter the residence, but was shot by the woman, the television station reported.

Blake was taken to a hospital for treatment, WVNS reported. The case is still under investigation, but Chief Deputy David Walton said charges were expected to be filed, the television station reported.
