Perhaps moving at a snail's pace would have been helpful for a driver in Germany who totaled his car after it slid on snail slime.

According to the Associated Press, the unidentified driver was driving on a highway in his East German Trabant when his car lost traction while passing over slime left by a procession of snails.

German police said the driver lost control and the car flipped, totaling the vehicle but leaving the driver unharmed. The accident happened on Wednesday morning, police said in a news release.

Some snails were killed in the crash, but others managed to safely make it to the grass embankment on the other side of the highway, authorities said. The sun eventually dried out the leftover slime.

The incident happened in Paderborn, over 200 miles west of Berlin.
