Five family members traveling together in an SUV were taken to the hospital, including two teenagers who were seriously injured, after a wreck in Cobb County on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Maria Delgado, 22, of Marietta, was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse with several family members in the second and third rows, according to Cobb police spokeswoman Officer Shenise Barner. Traveling north on Austell Road, Delgado tried to turn left onto Sandtown Road but was hit by a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse, a news release said.

Dora Alicia Antunez Alonso, 39, was sitting directly behind Delgado, next to a 5-year-old boy in a car seat, Barner said. A 16-year-old girl was seated in the right-side seat of the second row and a 13-year-old boy was sitting directly behind her in the third row.

Delgado, Alonso and the 5-year-old boy were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Barner said.

The 16-year-old girl was taken to the same hospital with serious injuries. The 13-year-old boy was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite with serious injuries, Barner said.

The driver of the 2014 Traverse, who was a 40-year-old from Marietta, complained of an injury at the scene but was not taken to the hospital, according to Barner.

Though no charges have been filed, the crash is still being investigated, Barner said. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact investigators at 770-499-3987.
