After a brief taste of fall, North Georgia temperatures have started to move in the opposite direction.

Wednesday will feel more like late summer, according to Channel 2 Action News. Temperatures are again in the 50s and 60s to start the day, and they will reach the low 80s in most neighborhoods by the end.

“It’s actually going to get a little warmer here as the mornings go on over the next few days,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “The afternoons get warmer, too.”

Atlanta’s projected high is 83 degrees. While that is more like September than October weather, Monahan said it will still be a nice afternoon with lots of sunshine.

“It’s gonna be a beautiful day later on today,” he said. “... Trying to find the time to get the kids outside? Anytime is going to be good today.”

There is no chance of rain in Wednesday’s forecast. Thursday will see more of the same before North Georgia gets a taste of Hurricane Delta, now a Category 3 storm surging toward the Gulf of Mexico.

Delta is expected to weaken after making landfall in Mexico, then gain some momentum as it approaches the central Gulf Coast, according to forecasters. Monahan said it could again become a Category 3 or even Category 4 hurricane before reaching the Gulf Coast late Friday.

The storm will then set its sights on the Southeast.

“The rainfall forecast has dropped a little bit because the track is looking a little bit farther to the west,” Monahan said. “Still, though, a good inch, maybe 2 inches of rain possible across North Georgia over the weekend. This weekend will be wet at times.”

Monahan said the wet weather is not likely to impact Friday evening plans, despite a 30% chance of rain in the forecast. Saturday and Sunday have a higher chance of storms, he said, at 70% Saturday and 60% Sunday.

Traffic conditions on Wednesday are lighter-than-normal to begin the morning drive, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. No major crashes have been reported as of 6 a.m.
