WEDNESDAY’S WEATHER-TRAFFIC: Most should stay dry despite small rain chance

Sept 9, 2020

With plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures in the forecast, Wednesday is slated to be another nice day in metro Atlanta.

While most should stay dry, there is a 20% chance of afternoon pop-up showers that will set the tone for the rest of the week, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.

The morning is off to a comfortable start with temperatures in the mid-60s.

“It looks pretty good,” Monahan said. “No wet weather to worry about. No rain. It looks pretty nice.”

As the day progresses, temperatures will hit a high of 86 degrees in Atlanta.

“We are going to add a few more clouds to our forecast, and a slight chance of showers as we head into your Wednesday afternoon," Monahan said.

As clouds move in, the odds of metro Atlanta picking up a stray shower ticks up, according to Channel 2. The best chance of rain is east of the metro area, so those in Eatonton and Athens will want to have an umbrella handy.

The rest of the week will be a little more slippery, Monahan said. Rain chances will climb to 30% on Thursday, 40% on Friday and Saturday and 60% on Sunday.

Though drivers won’t need their umbrellas right away, they’ll want to pack their patience for the morning commute, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

A crash involving a tractor-trailer has two right lanes of I-85 South closed near Highway 211 in Braselton, the Traffic Center reported. Drivers should use Ga. 124 out of Chateau Elan.
