Wednesday morning is off to a dry start in metro Atlanta, but afternoon showers could set the tone for a string of wet days that lasts through the weekend.

Parts of North Georgia could see up to three inches of rain between now and Sunday, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

“We’re halfway through the week, and we’re going to get into the wetter part of the week starting this afternoon,” he said.

Temperatures are starting off in the mid-70s around Atlanta, but it is expected to reach about 93 degrees by this afternoon, according to the latest forecast.

The chance of rain creeps up to about 30% around lunchtime, so it might be best to keep an umbrella handy just in case.

“If you need to get out and run some errands, earlier is better today,” Monahan said. “Between 12 and 1 o’clock, that’s when it’s going to start to get wet. It’s going to turn stormy at times into the afternoon.”

Those showers are expected to linger on and off through the weekend, according to Channel 2.

All those weekend storms are expected to lower afternoon temperatures into the high 80s starting on Friday.

There are a few crashes delaying traffic on metro Atlanta’s interstates. A tractor-trailer ran off of I-85 North just past the I-985 interchange in Gwinnett County, the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported.

The crash isn’t causing any major issues ahead of the morning commute, but one HOT lane is closed.

“There are no big backups, no need for an alternate route. Just don’t use the Peach Pass lane. Use the regular lanes on I-85 North into Suwanee,” WSB traffic reporter Mark Arum said.

On the Southside, a crash is blocking a right lane of I-675 North near Ga. 42. Use I-75 North to avoid the delays, the Traffic Center reported.

And near the airport, only the left lane is open on I-85 South at Camp Creek Parkway. Authorities are on the scene of a crash and cleaning up debris, according to the Traffic Center.
