Summer is in full swing in North Georgia, but there is a distinct fall feel to the air on Wednesday morning.

Gone is the heat and tropical moisture that triggered daily storms. A cold front moved through Tuesday, leaving behind cooler and drier air, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.

“If you’ve been stuck inside the last few days with the rain and storms around, the next couple of days are for you,” he said. “We’re looking great.”

Temperatures are starting unusually low Wednesday in the 50s and 60s. Atlanta is headed for a high of 85 degrees this afternoon, but Monahan said it will do so without the humidity. And with no rain on deck, any time Wednesday is a good time to get outside, he said.

“Lots of sunshine is in the forecast,” Monahan said. “Outdoor plans look spectacular today, and still looking pretty good Thursday and Friday. We’ll keep things mainly dry — the rain chance just up to 20% Friday.”

Rain chances come up to 30% for the weekend, but even then showers will be isolated, according to Channel 2. Monahan said humidity will also come up, pushing temperatures into the upper 80s both Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

“It should not bother us too much,” he said. “We’ve got some nice weather overall for your outdoor plans.”

Weather has seen some improvements Wednesday, and so have metro Atlanta’s interstates. Overnight construction is wrapping up and freeways are mostly delay-free, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

The ramp from I-675 North to I-285 East is open in Clayton County after roadwork crews cleared the scene, the Traffic Center reported. Only slight delays remain in the area.

And roadwork has also cleared on I-285 East at Bouldercrest Road in DeKalb County. Any residual delays should clear quickly, according to the Traffic Center.
