It’s wet at bus stops across metro Atlanta on Tuesday morning as more school districts head back to school.

Early morning showers are likely to taper off before sunrise, but Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said students might have to dodge a few scattered storms on the way home.

“That’s going to be a trend we’re going to follow over the next few days,” he said.

Tuesday should be the wettest day of the week with a 60% chance of rain, according to Channel 2. That chance drops to 30% Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Monahan said none of those days will be washouts, but there will be showers around. For that reason, it’s a good idea to pack an umbrella in the backpack this week, he said.

Tuesday’s showers are the result of a cold front that passed through North Georgia over the weekend.

“It’s going to keep us a little unsettled today, this front stalled to our south,” Monahan said. “North of it, more clouds than sunshine today.”

The rain will bring the benefit of some cooler weather. Temperatures are expected to top out at 82 degrees Tuesday, a difference of nearly 10 degrees from this time last week. The average temperature for this time of year is 90 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Volume is expected to build on the roads Tuesday morning as schools in the cities of Decatur and Marietta and several other suburban districts return to classrooms.

Multiple crashes have been reported on wet roads. In Buckhead, a crash with injuries is in the gore area on Ga 400 North at Lenox Road. There are plenty of emergency vehicles on the scene, but there are no travel lanes blocked at 6:30 a.m., according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

“No need for an alternate route headed between Buckhead and Sandy Springs,” traffic reporter Mark Arum said.
