North Georgia is looking at another warm day Tuesday as dry conditions and sunshine prevail.
Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said there will be some clouds in the sky, and showers are possible Tuesday afternoon in northwest Georgia. Even then, rain chances are very limited at 10%.
“Most of us should stay warm and dry all the way through the day today,” he said.
Atlanta’s projected high of 80 degrees is more typical of late September than mid-October. Monahan said the region is experiencing a “second summertime” after getting a shot of cool air at the start of fall.
Despite the summertime feel, fall is well underway across North Georgia, and peak fall color is just around the corner. Trees in the mountains will be the first to make the switch next week, but Monahan said metro Atlanta will have to wait until Halloween for the best leaf displays.
“The changes are starting, at least with the color of the leaves on the trees,” he said. “Not so much with the temperatures just yet. It’s going to be another warm day today.”
Temperatures will still be in the 80s at The Battery ahead of Game 4 of the Braves’ National League Division Series against the Milwaukee Brewers, according to Channel 2. By the end of the first inning, Monahan said temperatures will fall into the upper 70s.
Those clamoring for cooler weather won’t have to wait too long. A 40% chance of rain returns to the forecast Saturday, and behind it temperatures will drop, according to Channel 2. Monahan expects metro Atlanta to wake up to temperatures in the 50s Sunday morning.

Drivers in Cobb County were encountering delays on I-75 South not because of a crash but roadwork. Only two left lanes are open at Mt. Paran Road at 6:30 a.m., the Traffic Center reported.
Cobb commuters should expect extra delays at the start of the evening drive as Braves fans head back to Truist Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
