Few showers in the forecast Tuesday won’t do much to tamp down the heat.
Rain is 30% likely Tuesday afternoon, a little better chance than the day before but still limited, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. There is plenty of humidity, however, which will help push temperatures to a projected 92 degrees in the city of Atlanta.
“It’s gonna be a hot day,” Monahan said. “We’re looking at low to mid-90s, with the rain chances still on the low side.”
Tuesday will start out dry and sunny, which should warm up North Georgia quickly, he said. The region is in the mid- to upper 70s to begin the day.
Monahan said it should still be dry at lunchtime, but an umbrella could be needed by the time commuters head home from work.
“Later today, a little more moisture in the atmosphere is going to give us a little better chance for a rain shower or thunderstorm,” he said. “By 5 p.m., a couple of downpours around, and those are going to continue through sunset.”
Rain will start earlier in the day on Wednesday, and there will be more of it, according to Monahan. Rain chances are more widespread at 60%, and he said that trend will continue for the rest of the week.

There are no major delays on metro Atlanta interstates at 6:30 a.m., but volume is building, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
“Things are looking fantastic, especially if you are coming down I-85,” traffic reporter Heather Catlin said. “Everything from Ga. 316 to the Perimeter right now is speed limit conditions.”
Even the Downtown Connector is delay-free, the Traffic Center reported at 6:30 a.m.
More commuters are hitting the road on I-75 in Cobb County, Catlin said, but volume is really expected to pick up Tuesday night ahead of the Braves game against the New York Yankees. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m.
