It will be another hot and stormy day across metro Atlanta as voters head to the polls for Tuesday’s runoffs.

Storms were reported in parts of northwest Georgia before sunrise, and some of that wet weather is expected to make its way south after lunch, according to Channel 2 Action News.

While those afternoon showers shouldn’t be quite as widespread as they were on Monday, anyone with outdoor plans later today may want to pack an umbrella just in case.

“There are more summer storms on the way today,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “For most of us, the morning should be pretty quiet in and around metro Atlanta. We’re watching out for those storms in the mountains this morning, (and) more Southside storms this afternoon.”

Strong storms ripped through metro Atlanta on Monday, downing trees and power lines in some areas. While another round of afternoon showers is possible, today’s storms shouldn’t be nearly as powerful, Monahan said.

“It will not be as bad as it was yesterday, but in some spots there will be some downpours,” he said.

Tuesday’s temperature is expected to reach 93 degrees in the city, and Atlanta’s chance of showers is about 40%. That wet weather is expected to linger into the weekend as the chance of rain jumps to 70% later in the week.

As for traffic, there are no major delays reported on metro Atlanta’s interstates ahead of Tuesday’s morning commute, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

Road work appears to have one lane of Peachtree Road blocked in both directions at the intersection of Collier Road, however. That could cause some congestion between Buckhead and Midtown later this morning as drivers head to work.
