Water expected to be restored to Paulding area

Water service was expected to be restored Friday afternoon to an area of Paulding County affected by a water main break, according to an announcement.
“The contractor for Paulding County Water System is installing isolation valves and we project that water service will be restored this afternoon,” the Paulding County Water System said in a statement. “Then, work can begin on the roadway repair.”
Rocks in a pipe caused the break, water system Director Laurie Ashmore told Channel 2 Action News.
Workers may be able to repair the pipe Friday night, the news station reported. However, U.S. 278 probably won’t fully reopen to traffic before Saturday night.
Officials said earlier that the highway at Metromont Road is flooded and businesses are affected.
Eastbound traffic was down to one lane, according to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office.
And some restaurants in the area don’t have water.
“Citizens may want to check with restaurants regarding water service prior to arriving to avoid any inconvenience,” the county emergency management agency said in a statement.
Crews from the Georgia Department of Transportation responded to the water main break about 2 a.m., spokeswoman Natalie Dale said.
“The flooding seemed to cause some road failure,” Dale told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an emailed statement. “Consequently, traffic had to be shifted from the two travel lanes over to the turn lane.”
Paulding water personnel shut off the water main, Dale said, and county workers will start repair work when the DOT finishes checking damage to the road.
The Hiram Police Department recommends drivers use Bill Carruth Parkway as an alternate.
