Cobb road expected to be closed until Friday after water main break

A water main break has flooded a Cobb County frontage road near I-75. The gushing water can be seen from the interstate, the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported. Interstate North Parkway was completely shut down at Cumberland Boulevard on Wednesday morning. Motorist are advised to find another route. Authorities have not provided an estimate on when it might be repaired.

A Cobb County frontage road remains closed Thursday after a water main break sent gushing water into the air near I-75 and flooded the road.

Interstate North Parkway has been shut down at Cumberland Boulevard since about 7 a.m. Wednesday, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Cobb County crews are on scene Thursday working to repair the main.

The county’s department of transportation said it expects the road to remain closed for repairs until Friday.

Before the source was shut off, the gushing water could be seen from the interstate during the Wednesday morning rush, the Traffic Center reported.

The spill was so strong that it blew out a window and flooded the first-floor lobby of a nearby office building. The lobby at Platinum Tower is located above the ground-floor delivery entrance.

Lavida Thomas, who works on the 15th floor of the building, said she arrived for work Wednesday to find the road blocked and the building empty. Thomas was taking advantage of the opportunity.

“I’m going home,” she said.

Water outages were contained to the building, Cobb officials said. No other customers were impacted.
