A Missouri truck driver was killed Saturday morning when his 18-wheeler overturned and crashed into the woods on I-75 in Monroe County, authorities said.

Deputies responded to the single-vehicle wreck shortly before 5 a.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Anna Lewis said.

According to investigators, 49-year-old Derriun Taylor of Perryville, Missouri, left the northbound lanes of the interstate just south of High Falls Road. The tractor-trailer rolled down an embankment and overturned, striking several trees and a fence, Lewis said.

Taylor was pronounced dead when authorities arrived at the scene.

The cause of the fatal crash remains under investigation.
