Nearly five hours after MARTA rail service left passengers on trains for up to 20 minutes at a time, the trains are now delay free.

Officials earlier delayed service on the northbound and southbound MARTA trains due to “an issue with the automatic train control system at Arts Center,” officials said Friday.

“Operators are having to slow down and drive manually from Civic Center to Lindbergh,” MARTA spokeswoman Stephany Fisher told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The transit system notified passengers of the issues on its Twitter page just before 4 p.m. Friday.

Computer technicians were at Arts Center working to get the system back online.

MARTA alerted passengers the rail system was delay free just after 8:30 p.m.
