A driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was thrown from his Jeep and killed Sunday when he lost control along a curve on I-985.

The accident happened near I-85 in Gwinnett County, Gwinnett police said in a traffic report.

Juan Garcia Alanis, 24, of Douglasville, was heading north just before 10 p.m. when he lost control of his 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The crash sent the Jeep spinning backward and into a guard rail on a bridge, police said.

Alanis died as a result of injuries from the crash, police said.

The crash blocked the I-85 north ramp to I-985, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

The interstate opened around 2 a.m. Monday.
