A Clayton County man faces DUI and vehicular homicide charges after a New Year’s Day crash in Hall County that left his wife dead.

John Brown, 61, of Lake City, was driving a 2001 Cadillac Deville about 3:50 p.m. Tuesday when he tried to enter the I-985 South entrance ramp without yielding to oncoming traffic, according to the Georgia State Patrol. His wife, Shari Brown, was a passenger in the Cadillac, which was turning left from Ga. 13 South at the time.

A 2009 Nissan 370Z heading north on Ga. 13 hit the Cadillac on the right side, authorities said in a statement. That sent the Cadillac into a 2017 Hyundai Elantra stopped on the I-985 South exit ramp. The Hyundai traveled backward and hit a 2010 GMC Acadia stopped behind it, according to the GSP.

Shari Brown, 56, of Lake City, was killed. John Brown was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with complaints of injuries.

In addition to DUI and vehicular homicide, John Brown faces a charge of failure to yield while turning left, officials said.

The driver of the Nissan also was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with minor injuries. The drivers of the Hyundai and the GMC were not injured.
