The fire spread to a few Christmas trees, but most are still usable for the holidays, according to a DeKalb County fire official.

A busy DeKalb County road has reopened Wednesday morning after a fire at a Christmas tree lot caused a gas leak.

North Druid Hills Road in the Toco Hill neighborhood was shut down for nearly three hours while crews worked to put out the blaze and turn off the leak. Traffic was flowing again at 7:20 a.m., according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

DeKalb fire crews arrived on scene about 4:45 a.m. They found smoke and flames coming from a small brick building at a Boy Scout tree lot near Azalea Circle.

No one was inside the building when it caught fire, and no injuries were reported, according to officials.

“A few Christmas trees (were damaged),” DeKalb fire Capt. Dion Bentley told Channel 2 Action News from the scene. “But most of the Christmas trees are in good shape. They are still ready to be sold for the holidays.”

While they worked to put out the flames, no traffic was getting by on North Druid Hills Road between Clairmont and Lavista roads. Cars were being diverted into a nearby gas station and snaking through the Toco Hill shopping center to get around the roadblock.

Even after the blaze was out, the road remained closed until crews could turn off the gas leak.
