High humidity is keeping its grip on North Georgia and will provide the fuel for another round of heavy downpours Thursday.
About half the daylight hours will be dry, but the other half will be soggy, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. Like the past few days, rain activity will pick up Thursday as temperatures rise this afternoon and will stick around through the evening hours.
Showers and storms are 60% likely, Monahan said.
“We’ve still got this moisture to the west, and it’s still going to take us a couple of days to work through,” he said. “That’s going to mean another day today another day tomorrow where showers and storms are pretty likely across North Georgia, kind of anywhere at any time.”
Heavy rainfall will be the main impact Thursday, he said, and it will be pretty widespread. North Georgia has to get through one more day of widespread rain Friday before conditions start to improve, according to the latest forecast.
Monahan said drier air will begin inching closer over the weekend, limiting rain chances to 40% Saturday.
“By Sunday, we’ll have enough dry air around that our rain chances drop to around 20%,” he said. “That means it’s drier, but it is going to be hotter for the weekend.”
According to Channel 2, temperatures will be held back in the lower 80s Thursday with the rain around. Atlanta’s projected high is 84 degrees. That number will climb Friday and through the weekend, when temperatures could top out Sunday around 90 degrees.
