Drier air is filtering into North Georgia, lowering humidity and dropping temperatures Thursday morning.

Mountain counties are waking up to temperatures in the low 60s, contributing to an early fall feel. It’s warmer in Atlanta with a morning low of 70 degrees, which is more typical of this time of year. This afternoon, temperatures will be back up to summertime levels across the region, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon.

“We are expecting to see a quiet day in store with lots of sunshine,” she said. “A few clouds rolling in for the afternoon. All the way into the evening hours, there’s nothing that’s going to disrupt your outdoor activities.”

There is no rain in the forecast Thursday, according to Deon. It will be a warm one with afternoon highs near 90 degrees, she said. Atlanta’s projected high is 86.

“Drier air is moving in, so even as we wrap up the work week on Friday, we will continue to keep that sunshine around,” she said. “The forecast stays fairly tranquil for now, looking very nice.”

Deon expects to see a few more clouds in the sky Friday afternoon, but she is not expecting any to result in rain. Those with outdoor plans will be treated to “perfect weather conditions all the way through Saturday,” she said.

The Thursday morning drive is off to a smooth start with no major delays or longstanding crashes anywhere within I-285, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. There are no trouble spots getting into the city, either, traffic reporter Heather Catlin said.

“So far a great ride in on I-75, Ga. 400 and I-85 speed limit conditions heading into the Perimeter,” she said at 6 a.m.
