After a string of dry days, rain is expected to return to metro Atlanta just in time for the weekend.

Isolated showers moved through the Southside early Thursday morning, and humidity levels are starting to increase, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

“There’s already a difference out there this morning,” he said. “We do not have 60s, for the most part. We have 70s. We’re back in the summertime mugginess.”

Thursday’s high is expected to reach 86 degrees in Atlanta, but Monahan suggests keeping an umbrella handy for the next few days as rain returns to North Georgia.

While showers could be hit or miss Thursday and Friday, widespread rain is expected over the weekend, according to the latest forecast.

“It’s going to be a warm and humid afternoon, but there are going to be a few a showers around," Monahan said. "Then it gets a lot wetter into the weekend.”

There’s only a 30% chance of rain over the next two days, but the chance of showers jumps to 60% on Saturday and 70% on Sunday. The wetter weather will cause afternoon highs to drop into the mid- to low 80s this weekend.

It might be best to have some indoor activities lined up over the next few days just in case the rain causes those outdoor plans to fall through.
