A suspect described as troubled and “anti-government” is in custody after three people were shot Wednesday night in Glendale, Arizona.
Armando Hernandez, 20, is in custody, according to 12News Arizona. The shooting, which happened in the Westgate Entertainment District, has left one person in critical condition and two others suffering from non-life-threatening injuries, according to Glendale police.
Police responded to reports of a shooting about 7:30 p.m.
While police have not officially identified the alleged shooter’s identity, the suspect’s mother identified him. A classmate of Hernandez, who attended Raymond Kellis High School, also identified him, according to reports.
That classmate also described Hernandez as deeply troubled in school and “antigovernment,” according to 12News.
Police raided Hernandez’s home about 11 p.m. and took him into custody.
In a statement to CNN, Westgate Entertainment District said they were “deeply troubled by this incident and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.”
“Westgate will continue to work closely with the Glendale Police Department and in-house security to best ensure the safety of our customers, tenants and residents,” the statement said.
The shopping complex in Glendale is about 15 miles from Phoenix.
Arizona State Sen. Martin Quezada said on Twitter he witnessed the shooting.
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey also tweeted about the incident.
