Q: What has happened to Lori Geary, the political reporter on Channel 2 Action News? I’ve been missing her.

—Mattie Jones, Decatur

A: Geary left the station in 2016 to spend more time with her family and to start a communications firm. Although Geary told Q&A on the News that she expected to be doing political work, her firm is working with metro Atlanta nonprofits, such as the the Alonzo F. and Norris B. Herndon Foundation, Foster Care Support Foundation and Wellspring Living.

“Instead, I’ve been so blessed to tell the stories of philanthropic organizations,” she wrote. “It’s really fulfilling work, because I’m helping them to show their missions and accomplishments to potential donors through the power of video.”

She’s also the board chairwoman of Sunshine On a Ranney Day, a nonprofit that provides dream home makeovers for kids with special needs.

Leaving her role as a reporter gave her flexible hours as a mom.

“I have a 9-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son and felt like I was missing a lot because of our crazy work hours. Now, I’m able to drive them to school, get to their soccer, baseball and swim practices and all around just spend more time with them,” she said. “The first week home, my daughter said, ‘Mom, you’re really fun.’ I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry, but it made me realize I was really stressed trying to balance work and life in general. Journalism will always be a passion, but right now, family had to come first.”
