Q: Can you please provide other ways to donate to the Oklahoma tornado victims, as some of us prefer not to pad the salaries of Red Cross management? — Mary Shepherd, Atlanta
A: Many charitable organizations are accepting donations to help the victims of the Oklahoma tornado. They include:
- The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma (www.regionalfoodbank.org). Donate online or Text FOOD to 32333, and $10 will be charged to your bill.
- OK Strong Disaster Relief Fund (www.ok.gov/okstrong). Donate online or call (405) 236-8411.
- The Salvation Army (www.SalvationArmyUSA.org). Donate online, call 1-800-725-2769 or text STORM to 80888, and $10 will be charged to your bill.
- Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief (www.okdisasterhelp.com). Donate online or send a check to BGCO, Attn: Disaster Relief, 3800 N. May Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73112.
- United Way of Central Oklahoma (www.unitedwayokc.org). Donate online, call (405) 523-3598, (405) 523-3597 or (405) 236-8441, or send a check to P.O. Box 837, Oklahoma City, OK 73101 with notation for May Tornadoes Relief.
- Feed the Children (www.feedthechildren.org). Donate online.

Attorneys general in many states, including Oklahoma’s Scott Pruitt, have warned people to research charities and make sure they’re legitimate before donating.
