The teenager suffered a gunshot wound to his "lower extremity," Atlanta police said.

A 15-year-old was injured in a shooting while walking near a southeast Atlanta apartment complex early Sunday morning.

Officers were called to Grady Memorial Hospital around 4:45 a.m. after the teenager was taken there with a gunshot wound to his “lower extremity,” Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer TaSheena Brown told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Further details about the teen’s injuries were not provided, but he was alert and stable when he spoke with police at the hospital.

The teen told investigators he was walking near the Forest Cove Apartments and Thomasville Boulevard when he was shot, police said. He could not provide a description of the suspect, but Brown said investigators do not believe the shooting was random.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the shooting, Brown said.
