Metro Atlanta is in store for another chilly day on Sunday, though it won’t be quite as cold as the first half of the weekend.

The afternoon high is expected to reach nearly 50 degrees in the city, , Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said. The day should get off to a chilly start but, temperatures won’t be quite as frigid as they were on Saturday morning when snow flurries fell across parts of North Georgia.

“We’ll get in on a little more sunshine, but it will still be cooler than normal by about 5 degrees in the Atlanta area,” she said, but at least there’s no rain in the forecast.

The cold weather is expected to move out by Monday, kicking off a string of dry, sunny days with warmer-than-average temperatures, Deon said.

“Temperatures are going to be moving in the right direction over the next couple of days and we are going to stay mainly dry.” she said. “Temperatures will steadily increase, and by the latter part of the week we’re going up to 60 degrees. It’s going to feel a lot better.”

The rain isn’t expected to return until Thursday when the chance of showers jumps to 60%, according to the latest forecast.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews have several projects planned this weekend that could lead to overnight delays on metro Atlanta’s roads and interstates.

In Clayton County, drivers should expect minor delays in the southbound lanes of I-75 as crews have lane closures planned between Mount Zion Boulevard and Jonesboro Road. DeKalb drivers, meanwhile, could run into overnight construction near the I-285/Ga. 400 interchange as roadwork continues there.
