The mercury dipped below freezing across most of metro Atlanta early Monday, but temperatures will warm back to seasonal levels by mid-week, forecasters said.

Atlanta’s normal high for early November is 68 and the normal low is 48, but readings were nearly 20 degrees below normal early Monday.

Atlanta’s official thermometer at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport recorded 37 degrees, but it was 29 just before daybreak in Dunwoody, Dallas, Cartersville and Peachtree City. Alpharetta checked in with a chilly 28 degrees. In the mountains, it was 23 in Blairsville and Blue Ridge.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said highs will be in the mid-60s Monday and Tuesday, with Tuesday morning lows only dropping into the low 40s.

A 40 percent chance of rain is forecast for late in the day Wednesday into Thursday, Minton said. Highs will be in the low 70s Wednesday and mid-60s Thursday, she said.

The work week will end sunny but cooler, with highs Friday only in the mid-50s after morning lows in the low 40s.
