A woman died Wednesday night when the scooter she was operating collided head-on with a car in downtown Athens, police said.

Caroline Ramsey, 33, of Athens, was eastbound in the left lane of West Broad Street just after 8 p.m. when the 2013 Honda scooter crossed the center line into the path of a 2009 Toyota Corolla, Athens-Clarke County police spokeswoman Katherine Phillips said.

Ramsey was taken to a local hospital, where she died of her injuries, Phillips said.

The wreck remains under investigation.
