Robert E. Rivers, long-time clerk of the Georgia House of Representatives, will resign Aug. 1.

Rivers has been clerk for 21 years.

The clerk is the official custodian of all bills, resolutions, records and documents filed in the House. His staff is charged with keeping an accurate record of the proceedings of the House. During the annual legislative session, the clerk serves as adviser to the speaker of the House on parliamentary procedure.

“No one has loved this House more than Robbie Rivers and no one has so fully dedicated themselves to its well-being as he has,” Speaker David Ralston, R-Blue Ridge, said in a message to House staff.
