Ivan Morales is vowing to continue fighting in court to allow himself and other immigrants without legal status to pay substantially lower in-state college tuition in Georgia.

Morales, 21, of Buckhead, joined several fellow plaintiffs Monday in announcing a new front in the legal battle: Lawsuits targeting each member of the Georgia Board of Regents. An attorney for Morales said those lawsuits would be filed in the coming days.

“We are not going to stop fighting,” said Morales, who was illegally brought to Georgia from Mexico when he was 7. “We are going to keep going with this legal battle.”

The Board of Regents released a statement defending its in-state tuition policy Monday.

“Our policy was adopted several years ago to mirror a new state law,” the board’s statement said. The board said that law requires public colleges and universities “to ensure that only students who could demonstrate lawful presence were eligible for certain benefits, including in-state tuition. That law remains in effect, and, therefore, so will our policy.”
