Golden elected DOT commissioner

March 1, 2012

The state Transportation Board on Thursday unanimously elected Keith Golden commissioner of the state Department of Transportation.  Golden is now in charge of DOT's $2 billion annual budget and building and repairing the state's roads and bridges.

Golden was previously in charge of DOT offices over signage, patching roadways, and maintaining roadsides.  He has served as interim commissioner since the board ousted Vance Smith last September.  After Thursday's vote he said his biggest challenge was being ready for the transportation referendum this summer, which could double DOT's workload.
