An unseasonably cool week will be capped off with a sunny weekend that should gradually warm towards more typical May temperatures.
Following a week that saw low temperatures dip into the 40s around Atlanta, Saturday morning’s low will be slightly warmer at 53 degrees, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz.
“The average low is 60, so way below that,” Nitz said. “But from there, we warm way up into the 70s... 77 in Atlanta, still four degrees below average, but much warmer than we have been all week.”
No rain and mostly sunny conditions will create a warming trend over the weekend, with temperatures expected to hit a high of 80 on Sunday. Without rain, the pollen count is creeping up into the high range, Nitz said, with mold in the extremely high range.
The beginning of the workweek will see a few more clouds added to the mix, with high temperatures holding steady in the low 80s and a chance of isolated showers on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“I keep our rain chances locally pretty slim,” Nitz said. “Not zero, but about a 20% chance of a shower as we head into Tuesday and Wednesday.”
In terms of traffic this weekend, there will be plenty of roadwork around town as well as a home Atlanta United game Saturday evening. The hometown side will face off against CF Montreal at Mercedes-Benz Stadium at 7 p.m.
Expect to see roadwork projects throughout the metro area with the dry weather forecast. Lane closures on the sharply turning exit ramp from I-75 South to I-85 North in Midtown will add a traffic bottleneck as crews work on safety improvements.
In Alpharetta, South Main Street and Cumming Highway will see daytime lane closures as part of a widening project. Further south in Fulton County, I-85 will have overnight lane closures between Senoia Road and Metropolitan Parkway for striping work.
Overnight lane closures will also be in effect on Turner Hill Road and Old Covington Highway in DeKalb County for a resurfacing project. In Clayton County, there will be lane closures on I-75 North at the junction with I-285. As usual, there will also be lane closures around the junction of Ga. 400 and I-285 for the Transform 285/400 project.
