Moving into the fourth weekend of May, it will finally feel like summer.

A high-pressure system hovering over northern Georgia will usher in a week’s worth of hot, dry weather, with Saturday’s temperature climbing above average, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz.

“Lots of sunshine, dry conditions and high pressure dominating our weather is keeping us cloud-free,” Nitz said. “We’re going to go from warm to hot in the days ahead.”

Saturday will begin with a mild low of 61 before building heat throughout the day thanks to mostly sunny skies, eventually topping out around 86.

“We’re going to be in the low 90s as high pressure continues to build in through Sunday,” Nitz said. The pattern is expected to continue into the workweek with near-record high temperatures forecast. The mercury will hit the mid-90s Monday through Wednesday, with no rain on the horizon.

“Actually no rain – zero rain – over the next week and perhaps longer, as this pattern is going to be slow to break down,” Nitz said.

Dry weather should allow traffic to move smoothly throughout the weekend, but expect temporary hangups related to a couple of afternoon Atlanta Braves home games and the metro area’s many roadwork projects. The Braves, who are in the midst of a homestand against the Pittsburgh Pirates, will play at Truist Park at 4:10 p.m. Saturday and 1:20 p.m. Sunday. Watch out for traffic jams on I-75 and I-285 near the ballpark.

In Cobb County, there will be daytime lane closures Saturday on Highway 92 from North Cobb Parkway to Glade Road for a widening project. DeKalb County is home to multiple projects over the weekend, including overnight closures on Turner Hill Road and Covington Highway for concrete work and lane closures on I-85 for bridge rehabilitation.

In Fulton County, I-85 will see additional overnight lane closures in both directions between Senoia Road and Metropolitan Parkway for striping. There will also be lane closures on the I-75 South exit ramp onto I-85 North in Midtown for a safety project. As usual, there will be lane closures and traffic modifications around the junction of I-285 and Ga. 400 for the ongoing Transform 285/400 project.

Southeast of town in Henry County, roadwork is expected to cause major delays at I-75 South and I-675 for most of the day.
