The weekend is shaping up to follow the same weather pattern Atlanta has seen all week, with plenty of heat, humidity and scattered storms in store.
Saturday should start out relatively dry before storms begin to pop up around the metro area, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.
“If you’ve got outdoor plans this weekend, earlier is better for staying dry,” Nitz said. “By 2 p.m., isolated showers and storms will be on and off and kind of scattered through the afternoon and evening.”
Saturday’s high temperature should top out around 88 degrees in the metro area. If you’re looking for relief from the heat, it will be nearly 10 degrees cooler in the North Georgia mountains, Nitz said.
While there’s a 40% chance of rain in Atlanta Saturday, the chance increases to 60% Sunday as more moisture moves into the area. That additional moisture will lead to a wet start to the workweek, with an 80% chance of rain on Monday.

Along with the weather, roadwork and sporting events are likely to have an impact on traffic this weekend. Atlanta United will draw fans downtown as they face off against the New England Revolution at 5:20 p.m. Saturday. In southeastern Cobb County, the Atlanta Braves will host the Tampa Bay Rays at Truist Park Saturday evening at 7 p.m.
Lots of roadwork is scheduled to take place around metro Atlanta over the weekend. In Cobb, expect overnight flagging on Highway 92 for a widening project between Cobb Parkway and Glade Road, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. Another widening project on Powder Springs Road will stretch between Cobb and Paulding counties from New Macland Road to Marietta Parkway.
Also in Cobb and stretching into Fulton County, watch out for backups on I-75 as work crews perform bridge maintenance between West Paces Ferry Road and Mt. Paran Road.
In Clayton County, lanes will be closed on I-675 North as GDOT crews replace an overhead sign. Throughout the weekend in Clayton, there will be lane closures on I-75 North around the junction with I-285. The entrance ramp to I-75 from Forrest Parkway also remains closed through August.
In Fulton, there will be overnight lane closures on I-85 in both directions for restriping between Senoia Road and I-285. As usual, there will be lane closures and changes to the traffic pattern around the junction of I-285 and Ga. 400 as the Transform 285/400 project continues.
