The forecast calls for a beautiful autumn Saturday, and metro Atlantans would be wise to enjoy the pleasant, dry weather before rain arrives for an extended stay.

Saturday will start out in the mid-60s and warm into the low 80s by the late afternoon, with partly cloudy skies and just a 10% chance of rain. However, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns is tracking what he calls a “rain train” moving in from the west and expected to arrive Sunday.

Around 3 p.m. Saturday, “we’re going to see a chance for an isolated sprinkle or two,” Burns said. “Most of us will stay dry; this would be kind of a splash and dash situation.”

By the evening, there’s almost no chance of rain, though temperatures are expected to remain relatively high Saturday night.

“Upper 60s to lower 70s — and that’s at 11 p.m. on Saturday night,” Burns said.

The rain train will barrel into town Sunday afternoon, bringing nearly continuous rain through the first half of the workweek.

Beautiful weather Saturday is good news for a couple of Atlanta’s major sports teams which have home games, but it also means increased traffic volume as fans head to the stadiums. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will play the Pittsburgh Panthers at noon, so expect some traffic on the Connector and around Midtown Saturday morning. That night, the newly crowned NL East Champion Atlanta Braves will play the New York Mets at Truist Park, adding traffic volume around the junction of I-75 and I-285.

A busy fall roadwork season continues this Saturday as well, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. In DeKalb County, overnight lane closures will be installed on I-85 from Clairmont Road down to Midtown to replace pavement markings. There will also be overnight lane closures on Buford Highway for resurfacing.

In Cobb County, daytime lane closures will be installed for the ongoing widening project along Powder Springs Road. Lanes will be closed overnight on both Marietta Parkway and Veterans Memorial Highway for resurfacing. There will also be overnight lane closures for a restriping project on I-20 that passes through South Cobb as it moves from Fulton to Douglas counties.

Work continues in multiple familiar locations in Clayton County with Saturday night lane closures on I-675 at Anvil Block Road for overhead sign installation. In the same area, there will be further Saturday night lane closures for concrete rehab work near the junction of I-675 and I-285.

It will be another busy weekend in Fulton County, including continuing projects at intown locations. Overnight lane closures will be installed on I-75 near the exits for West Paces Ferry Road, Moores Mill Road and Howell Mill Road for bridge preservation work. A lane closure will also be installed at the intersection of Monroe Drive and Armour Drive as work continues on the construction of a roundabout there.

Farther south in Fulton, watch out for overnight lane closures on Langford Parkway for restriping. In North Fulton, there will be daytime lane closures on Cumming Highway and South Main Street in Alpharetta for a widening project. As usual, watch out for lane closures and traffic pattern changes around the junction of I-285 and Ga. 400 as the ongoing Transform 285/400 project continues.
