SATURDAY’S WEATHER-TRAFFIC: Cold, windy morning yields to afternoon warmup

Saturday will start off cold, dry and breezy, but the winds will die down and the temperatures should go up by the afternoon.
Gusty winds blew in from the northwest overnight and caused temperatures to dip down to the mid- to low-20s.
But the chilly air made it feel like the mid-teens in the Atlanta area by 6 a.m., according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz.
The weekend will start out with plenty of sunshine, although there will be a cold breeze in the air Saturday morning.
“So wind chill’s going to be an issue,” Nitz said. “If you’re headed out, you’ll want to bundle up.”
The morning lows are expected to range between 22 and 29 degrees. With the wind chill, conditions could feel as cold as 12.

“You combine that breeze that we’re going to have, it’s going to feel like the mid-teens to start the day,” he said.
The gusty winds should ease up as the day progresses, but the sunshine will remain. By the mid-afternoon, the high is expected to hit the mid- to upper 40s in metro Atlanta.
Drivers who hit the road can expect lane closures for construction work throughout metro Atlanta.
The Georgia Department of Transportation will continue restriping eastbound lanes of I-20 between Sweetwater Creek in Douglas County and Windsor Street in Fulton County. A right lane will be shut down from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday.
A project to widen Ga. 360 to four lanes along six miles in Cobb and Paulding counties will force weekend lane closures until 6 a.m. Monday, according to the Department of Transportation.
In DeKalb, one lane of the entrance ramp from I-285 to I-675 south will be shut down so DOT can continue an extensive $1.6-million bridge repair and rehabilitation project.
