Frigid overnight temperatures will give way to a clear, sunny afternoon this Saturday after a sodden week around metro Atlanta.
“We’re headed into a clear night, a sunny weekend - but also talking about some pretty chilly temperatures,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said. Overnight lows will dip into the 20s in Atlanta and even lower in the suburbs, but the weather will be clear, with little cloud cover allowing plenty of sun throughout the day.

“Winds are going to be low - less than 10 mph - so at least there won’t be any wind chill,” Nitz said. “With sunshine, we’ll recover pretty nicely given how cold it is to start the day.” The high Saturday is 50 degrees and temperatures will drop back towards freezing that night, though it won’t be quite as cold as the previous evening.
Sunday will continue the sunny, warming trend with only a few clouds moving in later that evening. The high Sunday afternoon is predicted to reach 56 degrees and it should be dry all weekend long.
“Our next chance of rain holds off until Monday,” Nitz said. “We’ll have some wet weather coming through the first part of the week, but it doesn’t last long.” After Atlanta sees showers Monday, drier and significantly warmer weather is expected Tuesday and Wednesday with temperatures in the 60s.
Traffic in midtown is likely to be snarled all weekend long as multiple roads remain closed thanks to a malfunctioning crane at a highrise construction site.
At the corner of West Peachtree Street and 13th Street, a crane suffered a hydraulic failure that caused the huge piece of equipment to lean preciously over the street. Major mditown thoroughfares, including both Spring Street and West Peachtree Street, will be closed all weekend as Atlanta fire crews said the crane would likely take two days to remove. More road closures are possible if the evacuation area around the crane needs to be expanded.
The only other traffic events expected this weekend are the typical lane closures for the Transform 285/400 project.
