Despite cold temperatures, Saturday will be Atlantans’ best bet to get outdoors this weekend before Sunday brings a high chance of rain.

A cold morning in the mid-30′s won’t warm up too much, with a high Saturday of 51. “It will be dry for your Saturday morning with a partly cloudy sky,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said. “We’ll have a mix of sun and clouds all through the afternoon, and it’s going to stay pretty cool all day long.”

The winds that swirled through Atlanta earlier this week will dissipate for the weekend. “There will be a lighter breeze so it should be fairly easy to dress for,” Nitz said. “But we’ve got some changes coming.”

Sunday will bring an 80 percent chance of rain with showers moving in overnight and a wet morning in store. “It’ll keep some wet weather around into the early afternoon, but by late afternoon into the evening, we’re going to see that rain moving out,” Nitz said. “It’s going to be a soaker, the first half of the day especially.”

Rain is coming back (again) by the second half of the weekend. I'll have the latest on Channel 2 at 11 pm.

Once the rain moves out of town Sunday night, very cold temperatures will grip Atlanta for the beginning of the workweek. Monday and Tuesday are predicted to be dry with high temperatures in the 40′s, though the mercury might finally rise past 50 by Wednesday.

No major traffic events are expected this weekend, though normal work will continue on the Transform 285/400 project. Crews will close three left lanes on I-285 eastbound from Glenridge Drive to Ashford Dunwoody Road.
