More excellent weather is forecast for Saturday with warm but relatively mild temperatures and no chance of rain.

“It’s going to be a beautiful weekend,” Channel 2 Action News Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns said, noting that it would be rain-free throughout the weekend and into the beginning of the workweek.

The day will begin with a low temperature of 63 degrees but will warm significantly through the day, eventually hitting a high of 85. There should be little cloud cover for a nice, sunny, late-summer day.

It will be a great weekend to get outdoors and most major lakes easily accessible from the metro area remain at full summer pool, Burns said. In the mountains, temperatures will be very pleasant, topping out in the high 70s and low 80s with plenty of sun. No rain is forecast for any of North Georgia.

The beautiful weather is always welcome when it comes to sports and outdoor activities, but it also means road construction projects will resume around Atlanta after a Labor Day hiatus.

A couple of major sporting events will contribute to traffic as well. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will play the Kennesaw State University Owls at noon, bringing extra traffic to the Downtown Connector and midtown around campus. Later Saturday night, the Atlanta Braves will host the Miami Marlins at Truist Park, so expect increased traffic volume around the junction of I-75 and I-285.

Much of the weekend’s roadwork will take place in Fulton County, including on major highways. Lanes on I-20 in both directions will experience rolling overnight lane closures from Windsor Street out to Sweetwater Creek in Douglas County. Further north, Birmingham Highway will see lane closures up to the Cherokee County line as resurfacing work continues.

Lane closures will also be installed on Langford Parkway for restriping. On I-85 North between Midtown and Clairmont Road, lane closures will be installed to replace pavement markings. Between Lindbergh and Buckhead, a busy stretch of Piedmont Road will see lane closures thanks to Atlanta Gas Light work.

As usual, expect lane closures and changing traffic patterns around the junction of Ga. 400 and I-285 as the Transform 285/400 project continues.
