A typical summer day is in the cards for metro Atlanta on Saturday.

That means plenty of sunshine, 90-degree temperatures that feel more like the triple digits and a decent chance of afternoon storms.

Atlanta started off in the low 70s this morning, but will quickly warm to a projected high of 90 degrees, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz. A 60% chance of rain will accompany the afternoon heat.

“(Saturday is) not a rain out, but there will be quite a few storms around,” Nitz said.

Weather permitting, Georgia Department of Transportation crews will have a busy Saturday. As a result, there should be plenty of slow spots that drivers will want to avoid.

From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be rolling closures along I-285 South near Memorial Drive in DeKalb County, according to GDOT. A right exit lane from I-20 West to I-285 East will also be blocked from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In Cobb County, a southbound exit lane from I-75 to Windy Hill Road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m, GDOT said. And in Fulton County, a right lane of I-285 North will be blocked at I-20 from 7 a.m. to noon.

Two Cherokee County high schools — Creekview and Etowah — are holding their graduation ceremonies today in Woodstock, so drivers should expect delays along Ga. 92.

Sunday’s weather outlook is similar to Saturday’s, but the chance of rain drops to 40%, according to the latest forecast. Like Saturday, most of that rainfall should be isolated to the afternoon and evening hours.

Metro Atlanta’s weather will enter a holding pattern after the weekend, so don’t expect too much change in the forecast for the next few days.
