The American Red Cross is urging those who have suffered damage or losses from the tornadoes and severe storms that struck Georgia recently to get in touch for help.

The Red Cross has mounted a statewide response to help victims by providing a place to stay, warm meals, clothing and other needs. The agency also is offering health services, mental health and spiritual care, sometimes by video chat.

Those affected can call 1-855-891-7325 around the clock.

“Call us if you need help,” disaster-response director Bob Sheldon said.

Sheldon said the operation has assembled volunteers across the state to work with each family to build a recovery plan.

Red Cross workers are following public health guidelines for the coronavirus pandemic, including wearing masks and making contactless deliveries of meals to commercial lodging where people are staying.

The Red Cross depends on financial donations to provide disaster relief. Donors can give at redcross.org, call 1-800-RED-CROSS or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
