Charlotte rapper DaBaby was arrested moments after leaving the stage at a major concert venue in his hometown Monday night, and he spoke out about it on Christmas Eve.

The “Suge” lyricist, whose real name is Jonathan Kirk, was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, according to WSOC-TV. DaBaby told the media surrounding him after he was released from a Charlotte-Mecklenburg jail that he was charged with resisting arrest.

The lyricist, who often collaborates with Megan thee Stallion, said he was targeted from the moment he entered Bojangles Coliseum on Monday. After leaving the jail, DaBaby shared with the media that his video production team had filmed his arrest, and the footage will prove he’s innocent.

“What we got is high-quality audio and video of me doing everything but resisting arrest before they just brought me down here,” he told the media in the wee hours of Christmas Eve. “And we will be airing it out, and y’all will see how dirty the CM police department just did me on the holidays in front of my daughter when I was putting on a show for my city.”

The North Carolina native goes on to say that he planned to post his personal video of the arrest on his Instagram on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day Monday, DaBaby posted about the Christmas gift giveaway he planned for needy families in Charlotte. The charity event took place hours before his packed show at the arena.
