About 10 p.m. Sunday, Burgess is accused of attacking a woman at her apartment off Norton Drive, Van said. The suspect and victim knew each other, but their relationship was not released.

Van added that the victim drove Burgess somewhere in Gainesville and was able to get him out of her car long enough to escape.

“It is still under active investigation, and any further details are developing,” Van said.
